Southern States Land & Timber LLC (SSLT) seeks a balance between good stewardship of its asset base for the long term benefit of its shareholders. As mineral and surface rights holders, we partner with surface land owners to promote and facilitate commerce and development in a manner beneficial to all parties. Southern States is wholly owned by The J.M. Burguières Co., Limited.
We now offer Conservation Mitigation Credits for compensatory mitigation for Incidental Take of the sand skink (
Neoseps reynoldsi) and blue-tailed mole skink (Eumeces egregious
). This allows landowners who wish to develop their property the ability to maintain compliance with the Endangered Species Act. The purchase of
sand skink credits will speed permitting time, provide regulatory assurance, and eliminate landowner liability.
Southern States Land & Timber LLC, a prime element of the South Florida economy since the early 1900's, once owned about 2,000,000 acres in what are
now Martin, Palm Beach, Broward, Dade. Collier, Lee, Hendry, and Desoto counties. From the early 1900's to the 1950's Southern States Land and Timber
developed experimental and demonstration farms involving sugar cane, ramie, citrus and varieties of vegetables. By the mid 1970’s most of the company’s
land interests had been sold, except for reserved mineral interests in Palm Beach and Martin counties. Now Southern State’s operations focus on its
reserved mineral interests and the associated surface access rights retained in south Florida.
